LVFO through the LVFO-GIZ project titled ‘Responsible Fisheries Business Chains on Lake Victoria’ is planning to conduct a lakewide hydroacoustic survey from 9th September to 8th October 2018 on Lake Victoria. The objectives of this survey are to estimate the amount of fish (biomass) in the Lake Victoria with associated confidence limits; to determine the spatial distribution of the fish stocks and to collect biological and limnological information to get better understanding of fish biology, ecology and environment in which they live. The survey will be conducted jointly by scientists from Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda on board the RV Explorer which is fitted with dual beam SIMRAD echosunder (70 and 120 kHz). The results of the survey will be presented to the stakeholders in October 2018.
